Fashion Enter’s Ongoing Commitment with the Tottenham Charter

15-10-2019

The Tottenham Charter has been created to bring together key partners and deliver beneficial pledges for the local community. These pledges aim to inspire, support and build experiences and opportunities for individuals based in the Tottenham area.

In support of the Charter Fashion Enter has pledged to host an open day factory tour and talk with local young people about the fashion and textile industry. As a provider of work experience, apprenticeships, skills training and jobs Fashion Enter is ideally placed to support the community and this local initiative.

In October 2018 the Fashion Enter team invited fifty job seekers interested in fashion and garment construction to attend an industry open day. The event introduced attendees to a wide variety of subjects including technical skills, business insight and employment opportunities.

As a social enterprise people and skills development is at the heart of Fashion Enter’s business. Its educational division, the Fashion Technology Academy (FTA), trains over 1,000 people per year in NVQ qualifications ranging from fashion design, to all aspects of garment production, filling a skills gap identified by the British Fashion Council.

Along with open days the team works with local schools, colleges and Job Centres to inform about the range of learning and career opportunities available in the fashion industry today. At the end of this month, May 2019, the team will be welcoming Tottenham’s councillors for a tour of the factory and Fashion Technology Academy.

Jenny Holloway comments: “The FTA and its amazing staff care for each and every learner that walks through our door. It’s not enough to tick box your way with policies and programmers such as enrichment, CPPD for tutors, IAG (x4) et al. You have to embed each strand deep into the modus operandi and live and breath the teaching and assessments undertaken. We love our jobs because we make a real difference to real lives.”
