14-09-2016
The ‘Factory Uncovered’ workshop lead by CEO Jenny Holloway provides a unique insight into how a factory really operates. The group learnt about UK manufacturing, the garment life cycle, what an open costing is, how factories use standard minutes, choosing the correct components for the garment, fabric consumption and the effects of cabbage, use of industrial machines and the technical implications of a factory on a garment delivery, why deliveries are late and much more!
Following a tour of the live factory environment many commented that they had gained knowledge that they had not previously had including how lay plans are created and how costs impact manufacturers.

On her experience Auyao commented: “Thank you for being open and really in depth about all you know about the industry. The visit has been eye opening and I have learnt a lot about factory life and how things affect my samples.”
Jessica commented: “I’ve learnt how to cost a garment, how to decrease a cost price without compromising the look of the product and terminology which I did not know anything about. I feel much more confident.”
Adding to her colleague’s comments, Athena went on to say: “I’ve learnt how our decisions in the buying office impact our factories. Every change or request has an implication and I will now think about that each day in my job.”
“I feel I’ve gained confidence and knowledge that I can apply to my job role. Thank you.” – Kelsie-Ann
