The ‘Factory Uncovered’ CPPD workshop with M&S

22-04-2016

A group of BAA’s, MAA’s and Design Assistants from the major British retailer took part in the workshop in order to gain an insight into how a factory operates. They learnt about UK manufacturing, the garment life cycle, what an open costing is, how factories use standard minutes, choosing the correct components for the garment, fabric consumption and the effects of cabbage, use of industrial machines and the technical implications of a factory on a garment delivery, why deliveries are late and much more!

The feedback following the workshop was extremely positive with everyone in the group feeling much more knowledgeable about garment production and how they can now relate this information to their roles. Comments included:

‘I have gained lots of practical information on manufacturing and the factory environment which I can now take into my role in Design. Jenny is a wealth of knowledge and information and it was fascinating to soak that up. I feel more prepared now to go into production and I know what to look for.’ Hannah, Design Assistant – Classics

‘I have learnt a lot from this seminar! It has helped me to understand exactly how a factory should run. I have learnt about SMETA audits and their requirements. Thanks for a fab morning’ Lucy – Buying Admin Assistant

‘This was a really good course, I have learnt the process of production, what is involved in costing and cheaper means of achieving a good margin.’ Daniel – MAA

‘A great course thank you. I have gained first-hand experience of a factory and learnt a huge amount on British manufacturing’ Amy – Assistant Buyer

‘So much insightful, useful, extensive knowledge that Jenny and the team so willingly share’ Nicola, L&D Consultant
