DISCOVER NUMEROUS WAYS TO BECOME A MORE CONFIDENT PERSON
January 25, 2020 - January 25, 2020
I have a vision. “The world is full of young people growing up, who are confident, positive and have a ‘can do’ attitude. Also, the world is full of adults who are doing a job that they “want’ to do, and have a ‘passion’ for that job.”
Pipe dream or reality? Only time will tell.
So, who am I, and why do I believe that this can happen, and that I can have a real part to play in it?
My name is Eric (pictured right) and I have been a Life & Business Coach for the past 15 years. During that time I have helped numerous young people, as well as some adults, both on a one-to-one basis and in a group situation, to move forward with their lives on a journey to reach their true potential. This has been a most rewarding, awesome and unbelievable experience.
Here are a couple of testimonials:-
“You are an inspiring man who I will never forget. The impact that you have had on me and my confidence will last forever.”
“Our son is a changed person and for this we must thank Eric and his coaching sessions. We have seen at first hand the benefits this can bring to children.”
I remember a client who once asked me to help her daughter, an eleven year old, who was very nervous about having to make an end of year speech to over 200 parents, teachers and schoolmates. Giving a speech by an adult to an audience is a daunting enough task, but for an eleven year old?
However, this particular girl was a sensation, and received tumultuous applause, numerous congratulations afterwards, and more important, lifetime knowledge on how to speak confidently anytime, anywhere. My pleasure in seeing this girl change during the coaching through to the end result, was one to be treasured for life.
So, what was it that you did Eric that helped this girl make that presentation such a success? As you can appreciate, it is never just one thing that makes things successful in life, but a combination of numerous things.
What this girl, and anyone reading this article must realise is that the mind plays a very important role in what eventually happens. So, we’ll assume that in this instance, her mind was saying things like, “I’m scared about doing this speech”, “I wish someone else was doing this”, “What if I fluff my lines?” All these thoughts are fed into the subconscious, and the latter starts believing this and wants to help the individual have these things actually taking place.
Change begins with language.
I introduced the young girl to the concept of affirmations. These are statements that must satisfy the three criteria of being positive, present tense and personal. The following three statements were suddenly forthcoming from the girl, viz. “I am an expert at making speeches”, “I am looking forward to making an excellent speech”, “I am a very confident person”. The subconscious now starts to get very excited at hearing these statements, and wants to help these things come true for the girl.
I also recalled a story to her about when I was at University, and having got my degree, I was asked to stay on to a doctorate. I turned it down on the basis that I didn’t want to lecture to undergraduates. Yes, at that stage, I also had a fear of speaking in public. I was then told something that changed me and I have passed it on to numerous people, especially young students.
I was told that “I would be lecturing because I had more knowledge than the undergraduates, and they were there because they wanted to hear what I had to say”.
So, for you the readers, no matter how old you are, and the young girl, when you are asked to give a speech, think of some affirmations, and most important of all, remember that you are being asked to speak because not only do you possess more knowledge than those in the audience, but also that they are there waiting to hear what you have to say.
Why are you nervous? You should be proud to be giving a speech.
