Working in the fashion industry it is imperative that you understand fabrics. However many enter a fashion career with very little textile knowledge or understanding.
This free taster masterclass, aimed at local Haringey and Islington residents, in ‘Fabric Appreciation’ takes place on 18th March at The Fashion Technology Academy. The session aims to give an essential guide that will cover the path from fibre to fabric as well as how the choice of raw material, type of yarn and fabric construction can effect the aesthetics, performance and cost of the finished fabric.
Led by former Fabric Technologist for M&S Deborah Shulton, she will bring along samples of raw materials and fabrics for the attendees to touch and analyse under a magnifying glass.
The 2-hour taster session will include:
+ An explanation of the fibre to fabric process – focussing on cotton / wool
+ Types of yarn and fabric construction
+ How to choose the right fabric for your design
+ Samples to touch and analyse
+ Dyeing, finishing and colour
+ Question and answer session
This Fabric Appreciation Taster masterclass with Deborah Shulton is a free 2-hour session taking place at the Fashion Technology Academy, Glassroom, 10am – 12pm Wednesday 18th March 2020.
