Fashion – Enter Seamstress Interviewed by the Daily Mirror

On the 26th November 2020, The Daily Mirror published an interview from Fashion-Enter’s youngest seamstress located at its Welsh factory in Newtown, Powys.
21-year-old Jess Smith was featured in the ‘Jobs’ section edited by Tricia Phillips of the national newspaper. Jess gave an excellent interview that covered her previous job with Laura Ashley and how her career hopes were thwarted when the company went bust in the summer of 2020. Step in Fashion-Enter and its plan to re-employ 77-ex Laura Ashley production workers. Since September Jess has adapted her stitching skills and is now making garments for ASOS.com amongst others.
From the article: ‘ There is a wonderful buzz in the sewing room since we started back in September. I spend the day at my machine, working on jumpsuits, trousers and dresses. It changes all the time.
‘It took a while to change gear from making curtains, but the skill set is the same so we all swapped easily enough.’
On being the youngest in the team:
‘I am (the youngest) most people imagine that seamstresses are older women. I am breaking the mould there and I hope that when others learn how much I love the job and how satisfying it can be, they might be tempted to follow suit.’
