Fashion Enter comments in The (Financial Times) FT (18th May 2018) on the decline of apprenticeships since the introduction of the Levy. Entitled ‘Apprenticeships Plummet As UK Levy Rollout Goes Awry,’ Department for Education figures show that there has been a big fall in lower, skilled intermediate level apprenticeships since the levy was brought in. Between September 2017 and March 2018 intermediate level apprenticeships fell 38.2 per cent from 141,400 to 87,300; higher level apprenticeships increased 25.4 per cent from 16,200 to 20,400 during the same period.
CEO of Fashion Enter Jenny Holloway commented:
‘The new system was not explained effectively. It will get better. It is right that employers influence the training of their workforce. They just need some more help.’
