Massive Sale at Unit 13

We will be having a HUGE SALE of equipment, fabrics and samples at Unit 13 Crusader Estate in Haringey. Over the last 8-years we have been leasing Unit 13. This was part of a programme with Haringey Council and we smashed all targets but now this programme has come to an end!

On Saturday July 22nd we will be opening our doors to sell the tables, chairs, some sewing machines and pressers, fabrics, samples, trims and more.

FEL CEO Jenny Holloway said: “I am so proud of the team. Over the last eight-years they have over-performed on jobs, business interventions, qualifications and set up a host of businesses too, but now N17 Creative Callings programme has come to an end at the same time the lease is up for renewal. It’s time to sell off what we don’t need and keep supporting the designers and learners we serve!

This does not affect the highly successful Fashion Technology Academy in any way whatsoever.”

Save the date Saturday 22nd July from 10am.

Unit 13, Crusader Estate, 167 Hermitage Road London N4 1LZ Nearest tube Manor House.

School Kids Experience Digital to Physical

Onsite at our North London micro-factory children from Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School have seen their digitally created hoodies become reality. Thanks to a design competition devised by PhygitalTwin Year 6 students have been taught how to use digital tools on an avatar to create their own designs.

Competition judges Jayne Pickering (Vogue, Marie Claire); Mary Fellowes and Amanda Eliasch selected the three designs that have now gone on to become physical garments thanks to the technology and skills at Fashion-Enter’s micro-factory.

As this competition demonstrates it has never been easier to design a one-off piece or begin a capsule collection. Congratulations to the three winners and PhygitalTwin for showcasing sustainable design to the next generation.

The Latest from the Collective

Gee Fletcher, FEL’s Project Development Coordinator, talks about the latest events at our FC Designer Collective shop:

“Hosting the 3D scanning event for N Brown in our shop was so much fun, to see how technology is changing within the fashion industry is very inspiring. The pattern cutting and stitching students got involved in using the measuring software and absolutely loved it, this will help create their blocks for their courses. Everyone who used the scanning machine got a free item of clothing, provided by N Brown to then upcycle into their own size.

I think it would be great to have the software in the shop more regularly as Fonthill Road is known for its fabulous bridal shops. This would help brides provide their seamstresses the correct measurements when needing alterations.

“This was followed by a successful 2-day sample sale on Friday and Saturday. We sold a huge selection of beautiful fabrics, deadstock garments & patterns at a reduced cost. We are going to get back into hosting sample sales every few months, everyone is welcome!”

Next on the agenda is a collaboration with Jessica Purdie, founder and creative director of Prikli Pear. Jess will be hosting a series of Beginner Crochet Workshops at FEL’s shop throughout July tap here for more details.

We also have a Dar el lina – Hijab Upcycling event on Monday 17th July. Dar el lina has created a signature, patented Hijab that is one-piece, easy to wear and flattering. There will be Hijabs available to buy as well as upcycle.
