Fashion Spotlight on Newtown Wales
Just over 1-week until our Made in Wales – The Fashion Event showcase! There is a buzz of creative activity as the student collections enter their final stages of production. Fashion-Enter machinists in both Wales and Leicester have been preparing the show samples with the students unique prints courtesy of Kornit Digital.
Phil Oakley, UK Director at Kornit Digital, will attend and is a guest speaker at the event, he said:
“Kornit and Fashion-Enter Ltd have a unique relationship whereby future sustainability for fashion is becoming a reality. By showcasing our Presto and Atlas on site at the FashTech Innovation Centre at Fashion-Enter in Haringey a future generation of designers will learn what sustainability really means today.
“We’re delighted to support the designers of Newtown College by providing free fabric printing and look forward to meeting the designers on 8th July at Pryce Jones Building.”
Also confirmed to attend is the Baroness Morgan of Ely, MS for Mid & West Wales – Minister for Health & Social Services, Russell George, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Montgomeryshire and Simon Platts, Director of Responsible Sourcing for ASOS .
Made in Wales – The Fashion Event will take place Friday 8th July at Focus Enterprise Hub, 3rd Floor, Pryce Jones Building The Royal Welsh Warehouse, 17 Old Kerry Road, Newtown, Powys, Wales SY16 1BJ.

Summer Stitching & Pattern Courses
The FCFTA Leicester will be holding stitching and pattern making courses throughout the summer. These provide the perfect opportunity to learn and improve fashion construction and stitching skills essential for many areas of the fashion industry.

Level 1 Workers Rights & Labour Exploitation
This week at the FCFTA the team have continued to deliver this essential course. To date FCFTA Leicester have delivered 74 qualifications in SEG Accredited Level 1 course in Workers Rights and Labour Exploitation. This course is so well received by learners at the Academy as it supports them to find a job, understand their rights and to know what is exploitation and how to report it. These courses have been funded by the Community Renewal Fund.
Welcome to Rukshana
Rukshana Omar has joined the team at FCFTA Leicester as a Tutor support & Sample Machinist. This week she has been making some fantastic garments in preparation for the Fashion Show in Wales on 8th July.
Rukshana comments: “I am delighted to be offered a position as a tutor and sample machinist and to be part of Fashion-Enter. I want to use my expertise to support and succeed for the company. I have really enjoyed meeting the students who are so keen to learn.”

2-Day Summer Stitching Course
Due to popular demand this August the FTA in London is holding a 2-day stitching course that will provide the opportunity to have a go on all the industrial machines such as flat bed, overlocker, coverstitch, baby locker, button holer etc.

N17 Creative Callings
We have a new N17 Creative Callings member; Zone Fauve, a Queer and Sustainable ready-to-wear brand. The Fashion-Enter team will be working with Morgan Jones, Creative Director of Zone Fauve, providing support and advice on developing the brand.
Morgan Jones comments: “Beginning our relationship with Fashion-Enter and the N17 CC programme has been very exciting for us and we can’t wait to explore the possibilities that working with the Fashion-Enter team will bring. Next Thursday 7 July 2022 Fashion-Enter will be taking part in UK National Manufacturing Day with the offer of a behind-the-scenes look at the inside of our ethical and compliant factory in Haringey.
Join us at either 11am or 3pm for a guided factory tour from Fashion-Enter’s Production Director Caroline Ash and gain firsthand insight into the complete garment life cycle.

Repair & Upcycle Workshop
Our latest Repair & Upcycle workshop, held last Friday 24th, was bustling with activity. This session saw a lot of summer dresses being transformed in a fun and informal, creative environment. If you are local to the FC Designer Workspace on Durham Road, Finsbury Park, N7 and would like to have a go at upcycling or repairing your clothes then check back on the newsletter for details on the next free session.
Free Business Masterclass Tomorrow
Tomorrow Sally Leonard will host an informative business masterclass at the FC Designer Workspace. Sally produces her own range of high-end ethical jewellery pieces alongside working as a business consultant for over 15-years, supporting & mentoring creative businesses & start-ups.
In this free session Sally will cover topics such as how you pay yourself, who you should work with, plus more business-related questions. This free business masterclass is supported by the Islington Business Recovery Fund. Places are limited for more info & last chance to book tap here.
