Newsletter 29th July 2020

Dear all,

The Apparel Industry is Crying Out for Tech Savvy Pattern Cutters

As with all industries technology in fashion is constantly evolving and changing the way we work. In terms of fashion production the requirement for CAD pattern cutters has rapidly increased within the industry. In order to keep up with the demand manual pattern cutters need to upskill and adapt the way that they work to incorporate these new technologies.

The Fashion Technology Academy has been running Gerber courses – beginners, advanced and one-to-one, for several years now and has received a 100% success rate. Gerber and Optitex equip pattern cutters with the skills employers require today and we regularly run introductory 1 to 3 day courses in both.

To find out when the next courses are due to take place visit: https://www.fashioncapital.co.uk/events/

Optitex by the Hour

As requested by our learners we can now offer Optitex by the hour for those that have completed the introductory course and would like further practice. Subject to availability Optitex at the Academies can be booked by the hour at the rate of £15 per hour. Please contact beth@fashion-enter.com to book.

It has been wonderful to see various individuals develop their businesses from the likes of Graham, a well-established copywriter that has widened his skillset to include animation and digital support, to embroidery and hand embellishment artisan Negin, who is now providing her services right here at the Fashion-Enter factory.

Lauren, another N17 participant, is the founder of Mi-bambino and Fashion-File, she comments: “Jenny Holloway from FashionCapital invested her time to understand me as person and also understand what drives me to establish my fashion business. As an entrepreneur who has developed her growth solely by herself, and by helping other brands in the process. I realised I needed help independently from my own fashion tribe, to navigate my business and brand in order to verify my own fashion knowledge, skills and business development. Jenny Holloway has been a cornerstone in realising my true potential and provided me with a platform.”

Community Sewing Groups Make Over 500 Masks

Community sewing groups based in the London borough of Islington / Finsbury Park area of north London have joined forces to produce more than 500 face masks for vulnerable residents during the lockdown whilst learning vital skills that have opened up employment and training opportunities.

The project involved individuals from various local sewing groups all with a varied range of sewing skills from complete novice to experienced. The Finsbury Park Women’s Network helped co-ordinate the volunteers and the council connected them with Fashion-Enter, who supplied them with their first batch of material and threads.
