Director of Labour Market Enforcement Visits FCFTA

On Tuesday 23rd August FCFTA Leicester was privileged to have a visit from Margaret Beels, Director of Labour Market Enforcement. Margaret wanted to visit Leicester, which has, over the last few years received some negative press in relation to unethical factory practices. There has, however, been a lot of good work going on by many organisations, including FEL, and this meeting was an opportunity for these “on-the-ground” organisations to meet and chat with Margaret.

Jackie Bertram, Deputy CEO of Fashion-Enter Ltd said: “It was great to hear from fellow organisations in Leicester that are also supporting the garment workers and increasing awareness of work place rights. Education and access to support is essential in protecting those that are vulnerable.”

1-Week Introductory Course to Continue

The 5-day Introduction to Industrial Sewing and Garment Making course has proved to be popular, therefore the Leicester team will continue to run this short course throughout September for £75 + VAT.

Please contact: Education@fashion-enter.com to join, spaces are available starting Monday of each week.

Staff News

Congratulations to Claire

From the 1st September Claire Solley will start her promoted role as Head of Technical Development. Claire comments: I have learnt so much since joining Fashion-Enter 4-years ago. Caroline and Jenny have been great mentors in my progression to this new and exciting position.

I love working for a company that is so diverse and constantly evolving, I have been given so many different opportunities since I started, including being able to learn Optitex 3D, to then be teaching others and passing on that knowledge has been a great experience. Helping the Fashion Studio to grow over the last couple of years hasn’t always been easy but it has been an enjoyable challenge and I can’t wait to see the team grow further.”

A Warm Welcome to Agnes

Agnes Szepligeti has joined the Fashion-Enter Ltd team as Fashion Studio Manager. The Fashion Studio in Haringey will be in her very capable hands as she is from over three generations of an apparel professional family and has worked in the luxury fashion sector as a Fashion Designer as well as freelancer for over 10-years.

Free Curtain Making Workshop

Today, Wednesday 24th, is the third and final day of the free Curtain Making workshop at the FC Designer Workspace. Tutors Ana Cover and Nick Evans have been working on this project with a large group of residents, he said:

“One of the reasons why I work with FEL is that they are a genuine social enterprise that is not motivated by money and they care about the people they teach and work with. I am currently teaching on a great, free, curtain making course engaging with Public Works. The aim is to teach people how to make the curtains and then there will be a commission available to make full length curtains for a new youth space opening in Islington. This is true circular economy work here in Islington.”
