It has been a week of ‘firsts’ during the last seven days in the fashion world – for the first time, Hed Mayner, a fashion designer from Israel, was awarded the prestigious Karl Lagerfeld accolade from the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers and it has been revealed that Victoria’s Secret has their first plus-size model under their angel wing (finally), who is starring in the brand’s latest lingerie campaign.

Hed Mayner Wins the Karl Lagerfeld Prize

A world first, Hed Mayner has been awarded the esteemed Karl Lagerfeld honour from the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers – the first Israeli designer to ever do so.

Renamed this year to pay respect to one of the most iconic and influential fashion designers of our time, the Karl Lagerfeld Prize is a truly significant award to win, especially as Mayner was amongst 1,700 participants from 100 different countries that entered the competition.

“I am so proud to be the first Israeli designer to ever enter this competition, let alone win this prize,” Mayner vocalised. “I spend a lot of my time in Paris, but Israel is always part of who I am, there is a sense of freedom here that cannot be felt anywhere else in the world. I am thankful for all the help Bezalel Academy gave me in supporting my freedom of creative thinking and choices as a young fashion designer,” he added.

Victoria’s Secret Feature Plus-Size Model

For the first time in the history of Victoria Secret, the global lingerie company will showcase a size 14 woman in its latest campaign in collaboration with London-based lingerie company Bluebella.

This positive step towards making the brand more inclusive throughout the world of fashion and beauty has been a long time coming, albeit, the model in question, Ali Tate Cutler, has expressed how she wishes her involvement will inspire other plus-size models in the future. This encouraging partnership arrives after Victoria’s Secret announced the inclusion of Munroe Bergdorf, a transgender model who featured in Bluebella’s 2019 lingerie campaign, entitled Love Yourself.

Until next time, xoxo, Katie.
