This week in the world of fashion, news unveiled of how The Duchess of Sussex (AKA Megan Markle) is launching a capsule fashion line of workwear pieces with the charity Smart Works, which supports women who are unemployed and want to enter or return to the workplace. We are additionally celebrating the 60th anniversary of Barbie and discover the six young, emerging designers who have dressed the iconic doll in their signature aesthetic.
A Royal Collection for Charity
Attaining a rather sought-after wardrobe that houses pieces that sell out in record time, Megan Markle is no stranger to style, so royal fans will be delighted to hear that The Duchess of Sussex is establishing a workwear capsule collection in partnership with the charity Smart Works – of which she is a royal patron.
The collection will feature an amalgam of high street fashion collaborators, who will include Jigsaw, John Lewis and Marks and Spencer, along with partnering up with fashion designer Misha Nonoo, who is also Megan’s close friend. Available later this year, the collection will be retailed via a “one-for-one basis”, meaning a garment is donated for each garment that is purchased.
Young Designers Celebrate Barbie’s 60th Anniversary
To honour Barbie’s 60th anniversary and celebrate its eclectic assortment of dolls, several leading fashion designers have been asked to outfit the iconic blonde bombshell in their signature styles.
A designer that champions artisanal techniques sometimes neglected in the present-day –Matty Bovan’s Barbie translates as a miniature personification of his magpie diversity with golden Japanese wool and sequins.
Lagos-born, London-based Mowalolo Ogunlesi dressed her Barbie with magnetic energy that imbues superhero powers with bold prints and a fearless attitude, all a reflection of her brand’s aesthetic.
Richard Malone’s eccentric and sustainably-led designs have been stylishly converted into his Barbie doll, who parades unexpected textures with a flamboyant red, white and blue fur stole draped around her.
