Taster Classes + Update on the Affordable Workspace Project – Islington
05-02-2020
Brand & Development Manager Stephanie Knapp attended the Sewing Group Sub meeting at the Durham Road Community Rooms yesterday afternoon (4th February 2020) to provide an update on the Islington Affordable Workspace project and to talk through the community engagement plans that Fashion-Enter Ltd have recently put into place. The free sewing taster classes have been well received by the groups and we hope to see more of them utilise this offer.
Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) has also planned a three-month schedule of activities that engage all sectors within Islington from community groups to business leaders.
Working with Patrice Buddington, the Inclusive Economy Office of Finsbury Park, and Ayodele Daodu, the Project Manager for the Affordable Workspace programme, FEL created a unique spread sheet of innovative ideas, which has started with the free Taster Classes taking place over the next four weeks.
On the first day of the Stitching taster launch Genieve arrived and she was introduced to Leyla, Stitching tutor and CEO Jenny Holloway. (Pictured above)
Genieve said: “I remember Jenny speaking at an event held by Kiss many years ago around 2001 – this is what inspired me to go on and study for my fashion degree. Who would have thought years later I would be here again with Jenny learning the technical skills I really need to get my collection and brand started properly!”
Genieve enjoyed her session on the taster course and is now signing up for her free Level 1 qualification in Stitching next week.
This is exactly what the Affordable Workspace project is all about. Upskilling a future generation of stitchers so they can become entrepreneurs in their own right and create and design their collections to sell in the Fonthill FC Designer Collective boutique at 113-115 Fonthill Road.
Please note that although the shop is closed for a re-fit Stephanie will still be present and more than happy to meet potential designers at the space until the works take place and it is ready for its grand opening in spring.
Let the good times roll!
