Primary Choir To Uplift and Learn This Fashion Revolution Week

On the 24th April, Fashion Enter, a not for profit, social enterprise, for sampling, grading, production and for learning and development of skills within the fashion and textiles industry, will be welcoming the renowned Tiverton Primary Choir (pictured below) to sing on its factory floor, in North London.
The event will respectfully acknowledge the 5th year anniversary of the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh where over 1,000 garment workers lost their lives and a further 2,500 were injured. The disaster gave rise to Fashion Revolution Week (23-29th April) to shine the spotlight on unethical manufacturing practices around the globe, an initiative that Fashion Enter has supported from the outset.
Fashion Enter runs a fully compliant and transparent garment production factory alongside its learning facility – the Fashion Technology Academy (FTA). The need for more skilled garment workers in the UK is at an all time high, so the educational arm of Fashion Enter has organically grown to cover the entire garment production process. After a song from the choir the group of 8 to 11 year-olds will be given a tour of the factory and FTA and shown how essential STEM skills (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) are utilized within the fashion industry.

“Tiverton Primary school is delighted to be participating in this cross borough engagement. The Choir will be representing the school and they are all looking forward to the opportunity to perform in the factory, talk to the employees and have a tour.”

“It’s wonderful to be welcoming the 25 pupils from Tiverton Primary Choir to Fashion Enter HQ. This is part of a unique collaboration to engage with schools and embed the importance of STEM into pupils and learners of today. The entire workforce will be taking time off to welcome the pupils who will be singing in our factory environment, a poignant moment as we all reflect on the anniversary of the horrific Rana Plaza disaster. The choir will then be guided around the factory in two groups to understand the importance of science, technology engineering and maths in fashion firsthand on our factory floor and Fashion Technology Academy. Learning can take place in all kinds of ways and this is a very exciting development for our staff too!”
Jenny is a member of Haringey’s STEM Expert Panel as well as EEF, The Manufacturers’ Organisation, Employment and Skills Policy Committee.
