Mental Health Awareness Week

18-05-2020

A subject close to all our hearts here at Fashion-Enter Ltd is mental health, and this week 18th – 24th May, is Mental Health Awareness Week hosted by the Mental Health Foundation (MHF). Each year the Foundation picks a theme and for 2020 it’s ‘kindness.’

Why kindness? Mark Rowland, Chief Executive of the MHF explains: ‘We have chosen kindness because of its singular ability to unlock our shared humanity. Kindness strengthens relationships, develops community and deepens solidarity. It is a cornerstone of our individual and collective mental health. Wisdom from every culture across history recognises that kindness is something that all human beings need to experience and practise to be fully alive.’

As the MHF website explains – after the 2008 credit crunch it was the most vulnerable in our communities who experienced the severest consequences of austerity, with devastating effects on their mental and physical health. We must not make the same mistakes after this pandemic! Small acts of kindness can help, including being kind to yourself.

The MHF have set a challenge that centres on being kind to yourself by taking some time out each day for yourself. Be active, the MHF is suggesting at least 30 minutes a day of being active – running, walking, cycling, yoga, it could even be gardening, baking or dancing around the kitchen.

During the week carry out or reflect on an act of kindness. Take a photo or video (with permission!) and use the hashtags:
