FC Designer Collective: Jannaty

Each week FashionCapital will shine a spotlight on one of their creative talents stocked at the FC Designer Collective on Fonthill Road, London N4. This week it’s the turn of Jannaty, a charity that empowers local women to lead independent lives and includes the development of sewing and crochet skills.

Jannaty, Women’s Social Society, provides a space for local members to come together, interact, learn, develop and grow. The majority of Jannaty members are of BME backgrounds however, Jannaty welcomes women and girls from all walks of life.

As a part of this charitable community Jannaty holds courses in sewing: beginners and advanced and crochet. Attendees are taught the basics in pattern cutting, garment construction, professional finishing, fashion sketchbook, and embellishment. The aim is for attendees to gain skills and experience so, that they are able to gain employment and a source of income.

Since 2014 Jannaty established a charity boutique that sells quality made garments created by its local attendees, some of which can now be found at the FC Designer Collective. The Jannaty modesty wear collection comprises of dresses, tops, tunics, kaftans, kimonos and accessories, which are all one-off designs.

Jannaty’s Director, Majida said: “It has always been my dream to help women to become more empowered and independent, and I would like to thank Cripplegate Foundation for their generous support over the years to fund the sewing and dress making course and make my dream a reality. We are proud to be part of the FC Designer Collective and look forward to the collaborative opportunities that will benefit our members, users and society as a whole.”
