11-02-2025
Q What time does your alarm go off?
G My alarm goes off at 5:50am and I snooze it until 6am!
Q What’s a typical day like for you?
G A typical day for me would be checking the lines in the morning to see what stage everything is at, then throughout the day I would measure any fit samples/ Production samples to send off, I would complete any AQL’s and in-line checks.
Q Tell us about your career route, where did it all start for you?
G I started doing this Garment Tech Apprenticeship in October 2017 with an interest in fashion but not knowing where to start and since being here I have learnt so much about so many different things, from measuring to the production process.
Q And did you spend any time completing work placements / experience?
G I have no experience in fashion but I have work experience in various other roles.
Q What key skills / attributes would you say are essential for this role?
G I think a key skill for this role is eye for detail, as you need to spot a mistake before it gets into production as it will cause a lot of issues further down the line and they could be much worse by that point. Also another key skill would be completing tasks within the set deadline.
Q What is your most memorable work moment?
G My most memorable work moment was becoming ‘Apprentice of the Year!’
Q What is the worst part of the job?
G Sometimes I feel like the paperwork is the worst part of my job but it helps so much when we have a repeat order so if anything goes wrong I can also go back and double check what happened last time.
Q Best piece of advice you have been given?
G Jenny (CEO Jenny Holloway) gives great advice and is always pushing everyone to do more; she has taught me that you should always love what you do and to speak up so it can be changed.
Q Is there anyone in the fashion sector that you think is inspirational?
G The thing that inspires me the most is small businesses on social media like instagram working so hard to make their way up in the fashion world and seeing what is happening behind the scenes, also anyone who uses fashion to create a movement or express who they are inspire me a lot.
Q After work you like to…
G After work I like to go home and relax and go on things like Pinterest/instagram to see the latest trends and get inspired to create new looks. I would also try and catch up on any outstanding college work.
