New York Fashion Week Upcoming Designers
The city of New York is once again kicking off fashion week proceedings, and with the likes of Altuzarra, Proenza Schouler and Thom Brown opting to make the transition to show in Paris, there leaves plenty of room for an array of newcomers to step in to present their exciting debut collections. Look out for these two fresh talents amid the Big Apple’s style schedule.
With her upbringing being located between France and Japan, designer Sylvie Millstein operates her life and business in Soho, New York. She attained the finalist position at the 2016 International Woolmark Prize and has previously dressed an amalgam of A-list celebrities such as Beyoncé, Emma Watson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Emily Ratajkowski. Relaxed silhouettes along with proportions that imbue a playful allure have become synonymous with the upcoming designer, whose collection this season is focussing on minimalism and infused with inspiration from the rococo style of interior designer Tony Duquette. For autumn/winter 2018, Hellessy is exploring rich, opulent colours and textures that resonate with women who desire to stand out.
Establishing her label in 2004, the upcoming Australian designer is known for her juxtaposition of breezy femininity with a mid-century retro essence. Showing in New York for the first time this season, McCall explains that, “New York is the centre of the US fashion scene and represents a gateway to the wider market.” From exhibiting at an event last year in Los Angeles, she acknowledged an evolving appeal for her designs and subsequently made the transition to the US. For Autumn/Winter 2018, Alice McCall is injecting a true modernity and elegance into her silhouettes and is including her vintage prints that are becoming her signature throughout her sartorial works.
