Creative Prep in Progress – Made in Wales – The Fashion Event

Fashion-Enter Ltd Wales and Art & Design students at NPTC Group of Colleges – Newtown College in Powys are in full creation mode in preparation for this summer’s fashion extravaganza.

Thanks to the Kornit Presto digital printer at Fashion-Enter the students have been able to create their own unique fabrics and now, with the support of the Fashion-Enter Wales team, are pattern cutting and stitching together their one-off designs. 

Carys Jones, Art & Design Lecturer said: “There is a real buzz in the Art Department as we get closer to the big event. We are now at the stage where the students’ designs are coming to life as we start the production process with Fashion-Enter. This collaboration is giving our students a unique opportunity to work on a live brief with industries on our doorstep.” 

Tasha Perry, Art & Design student commented: “I’ve been working on a fashion collection inspired by Laura Ashley. The project is a really good opportunity for us to showcase our work and get a good insight into the fashion industry.”

“I’m excited for the fashion show. Things like this usually happen in big cities, so it’s fantastic that such an event is happening in Newtown. I can’t wait to see my designs on the catwalk.” Added Tianna Green, Art & Design student.

Taking place on Friday 8th July Made in Wales – The Fashion Event will celebrate both manufacturing and design to put Newtown and ‘Made in Wales’ firmly back on the fashion map. The day long event will be open to local schools, where there will be informal sessions on the garment making process, manufacturing, skills and careers in the fashion industry. Two fashion shows will follow culminating in a grand finale and party.

Made in Wales – The Fashion Event will take place Friday 8th July at Focus Enterprise Hub, 3rd Floor, Pryce Jones Building The Royal Welsh Warehouse, 17 Old Kerry Road, Newtown, Powys, Wales SY16 1BJ.
