10-03-2017

East London Support for School Apprenticeship Fair at Hackney jobcentre:

Education Manager Esme and Apprentice Razina attended the East London Support for School Apprenticeship Fair at Hackney jobcentre on 08.03.2017.

Prospects UK joined forces with Job Centre Plus in promoting apprenticeships via The Inspiration Agenda to schools and young people.

Many attended hoping to get a clearer picture of the opportunities which are given to them in terms of career choice and information.

Neil Hammond, Partnership Careers Adviser from the National Careers Service asked our lovely Razina to be a speaker and give an insight into her experience as a Pattern Cutting apprentice as well as the reasons behind her career choice. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session.

Neil said: ‘Apprenticeships have been around for a long time, before universities. An important part of the process is to make time and do your research. The National Apprenticeship website is a useful tool for this. Your plans and ideas need to grow feet!’

Neil went on to explain that 89% of employers this year are looking for apprenticeships as a way forward. More than 1500 different types of apprenticeship are on offer. You can earn while you learn and gain professional, transferable qualifications.

Several companies were at the event, including Create Jobs – A New Direction, DIVA, Circle Collective, Tesco, BAJ-British Academy of Jewellery and The London Hairdressing Apprenticeship Academy.

8 march apprentice of the yearAt the event, Razina (pictured right) was awarded with Apprentice Of The Year and commented:

“Winning the Fashion Enter Apprentice of the year award twice in a row is very overwhelming as I really wasn’t expecting it, and it also shows that the work I do is appreciated by the team. This will encourage me to do even better and make more progress as an employee at Fashion enter once my apprenticeship ends in the upcoming weeks.”

‘A big thank you and well done to Razina who has been recently awarded Apprentice of the Year 2017 by Fashion Enter! To all the young minds who are still uncertain on what career path to take, know that there are options but you need to apply! Find time, ask questions, apply, attend events and go to interviews!’ – Esme Teacle

Attending Tottenham Hotspur Football Ground, Development Manager Jenni Sutton discussed the FTA’s level 1 and 2 courses in pattern cutting and sewing skills as well as apprenticeships and their benefits.   On the event she commented;

“On March 8th as part of National Apprenticeship Week I attended the Apprenticeship Fair at Tottenham Hotspur to promote our technical qualifications and  fashion apprenticeships. It was fantastic to meet a cross section of local individuals looking for opportunities into work, from those about to leave education to those looking for training to help secure employment. There was lots of interest in our Level 1 Stitching Academy and Perfect Patterns Cutting course especially from local residents who could see this as an opportunity to learn a new skill to help them gain the confidence to start a new venture. Thank you to the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation for inviting Fashion Enter to take part in the event.”

Tutor Marilyn also attended an event on the 8th March.  She was invited to South Thames College’s employer fair to inform attendees of what we have to offer;

“Fashion Enter Ltd was one of a select group of employers and training providers invited to attend South Thames College’s Wandsworth Employer Fair on 8-2-17. There were many enquiries about Fashion Enter’s Apprenticeships training programmes and keen sewers were attracted by the Stitching Academy’s very successful training courses, which includes the recently launched L2 Perfect Patterns module. The interested parties gathering around the Fashion Enter stand were part of a diverse range of learners- from those who are on ESOL courses to those studying textiles. They were provided with the latest updates on the potential job outcomes from completing these courses, (which has been many!) and immediately signed up to receive further details about enrolment!”
