Newsletter 6th May 2015 – Training Fashion’s Future
Dear all,
We are pleased to welcome our first cohort of overseas students to the Fashion Technology Academy.
The team’s continual dedication to providing training and employment opportunities in the fashion production sector has gained a positive reputation, which has been noticed by fashion Universities, and Colleges both at home and overseas. The latest cohort to undertake a 2-week course is coming from the OSC College of Fashion in Nigeria.
The OSC College of Fashion is an internationally recognised school for design, fashion, art, communications and business founded by Sola Babatunde. Sola is committed to the empowerment of Nigerian youth, especially women, and along with the college she provides a vocational entrepreneurial development course she teaches at OSCCAT training institute and the personal mentoring program she runs for young women. As a result Sola has trained over 300 students who have gone on to establish their own business.
Sola believes that the international training opportunity that the students will undertake with Fashion Enter will broaden their fashion production skills and open their eyes to the opportunities available in the fashion sector across the globe. She said, “I was so glad when I found FashionCapital.co.uk on Abiola Oni’s, who lives and works in London, recommendation. I went through your website and felt like I had gone to heaven, it’s exactly what I hope to offer the fashion industry in Africa.
“It would be extremely beneficial for my students to visit for a 2-week programme. I want them to have a hands-on practical experience of production and a real behind the scenes fashion learning experience.”
Wendy Coley, Head of Education at Fashion Enter added: “We look forward to welcoming the students, they will be doing a mixture of pattern cutting & industrial sewing, working to industry standards.”

Meet the Manufacturer & Meet the Buyer
Meet the Buyer is a new upcoming event held during Meet the Manufacturer. Meet the Buyer will give retailers and buyers the opportunity to meet UK based manufacturers and textile industry practitioners away from the hustle and bustle of the trade show over afternoon tea.
A collaborative initiative between Make it British and the UK and Textile Association (UKFT). The 2-day Meet the Manufacturer event will offer exhibiting manufacturers unique networking opportunities with key industry buyers and retailers in speciality areas all under one roof.
Kate Hills, founder of Meet the Manufacturer commented: “Following feedback from last year’s [Meet the Manufacturer] show we’re confident that there is a demand for this type of unique workshop.”
“Our close connections with manufacturers, coupled with the UKFT’s extensive retailer relationships make this the ideal partnership to pioneer something like this.”
John Miln, CEO of UKFT added, “The values and purpose of Meet the Manufacturer fit perfectly with ours – to bring together fashion industry buyers and manufacturers for an inclusive British networking event – we’re delighted to have this opportunity to work together.”
The next Meet the Manufacturer takes place at Tobacco Dock in London 3rd & 4th June 2015, Fashion Enter will be present and have a stand at this event.

Boutique Pick of the Week
Igniting those childhood story time memories this week is this limited edition ‘The Green Man’ watch from Mr Jones Watches. A celebration of the end of Winter and the arrival of Spring – the Green Man in mythology is associated with the cycle of renewal in nature. Produced at Mr Jones’ London based workshop to a maximum of 100 pieces, each watch is uniquely numbered. Mr Jones Watches are designed by Crispin Jones with the core ethos that well made watches should do more than just tell the time; they should evoke a reaction, a conversation or a smile. Or in The Green Man’s case…a childhood memory.
