Newsletter 17th August 2016
Dear all,
A big well done and congratulations to Team GB for their remarkable performance at the Olympics, we have all been gripped at FashionCapital HQ and this positive news for Great Britain is just what the country needs right now.
Olympians are not the only ones going for gold. We are pleased to be working alongside British television personality, June Sarpong MBE on her brand Ldny designed by Daniella Helayel and in partnership with the United Nations Trust Fund to end violence against women.
On Monday June held a screening day with CEO Jenny Holloway at Fashion Enter (pictured right) for apprenticeship applicants for her exciting and ethical brand. Hundreds of hopefuls applied for the role and 50 were selected to take through to the first stage interviews. Filmed by AOL, June was clearly impressed and said each and every person brought something to the table and if she could she would hire everyone! The 50 the applicants were shortlisted to 11, which will be attending a second interview today. We wish them the best of luck and will announce the lucky five in due course.
Theodora (left) one of the 11 candidates to go through to the final interview commented:
“This is an amazing opportunity and I feel blessed to be a part of it, I feel if I was granted this opportunity it would allow me to show all my talents and I would flourish working along side June because she’s such an inspiration. This would mean a lot to me as I’ve come such a long way since I left university and given the opportunity to work as an apprentice would be so amazing to contribute my fashion experience and everything I’ve learnt over the years.
“Fashion Enter have been great at supporting me with my dreams, when I came to fashion Enter I was feeling very deflated and almost of the verge of giving up after getting my samples stolen but I was advised and motivated. I was given a bursary to do the Sewing Level 1 this really helped me because I learnt about fashion production how to put clothes together and after the course I now know nothing or no one is going to stop me, sometimes you just need someone to believe in your dream in order for it to live… Fashion Enter did that!”
Collaboration with Best of Britannia
And that’s not all, Best of Britannia (BOB) is proud to announce that June Sarpong will join the London 2016 event as an ambassador. Best of Britannia is a celebration of British brands and a place to buy the very best British-made apparel, footwear, accessories, jewellery and more.
June will launch her Ldny collection produced by not-for-profit company Fashion Enter at the event. June comments: “I am delighted to be an Ambassador for Best of Britannia and to be utilising its platform to launch Ldny, my new fashion social enterprise. The ethos of Ldny is to empower and inspire through the power of fashion. We are also proud to be working with Fashion Enter. All of these elements are what makes our partnership with BOB a match with Made in Britain.”
Jenny Holloway, CEO of Fashion Enter – will be setting up shop at BOB, pattern-cutting and machining Ldny product at the show itself – says: “Over the last two years we have watched Best of Britannia grow tremendously in terms of exhibitors and footfall, so naturally we are excited to be collaborating this year. It’s even more special for us as we are working with the fabulous June Sarpong MBE who will be launching her beautiful collection. It’s time for the country to fully support the makers of the nation.”
Best of Britannia takes place at Bloomsbury Square from September 30th to October 2nd 2016.

What a Waste of Space
Isn’t it alarming that the latest figures reveal at least 10% of high street stores across the UK remain empty due to rising property costs and the growth of online shopping? As many of our members know we have provided selling opportunities for up and coming designers by hosting pop-up boutiques in empty premises in London and other locations across the country. However, we have been severely stung by one council. Jenny Holloway states: “How heart breaking. All that prime retail space and all those highly talented designers that need exposure. Surely councils could be networking with regional designers to offer affordable space? However, that said one place I would never ever open a boutique is Bath.”
