Quality Control Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteering and completing work experience is an incredible opportunity for young students to gain hands on experience within the fashion industry, it shows dedication, commitment and the ability and willingness to learn new skills and offer time and services.  Volunteers are greatly appreciated by many and the opportunity itself is extremely rewarding.

The Foundation will bring benefits to an even greater number of farmers and artisans through scaling up training, technical support and environmental initiatives. The Foundation also raises awareness and campaigns for fair and sustainable fashion.”

With ethical fashion at their core, People Tree aim to alleviate poverty in developing countries such as Asia and Africa, protect the environment, promote community development and promote awareness of Fair Trade and environmental issues in Britain and the developed world.

The Volunteer Role:

The volunteer will support livelihoods-creation, by producers gaining the capability to meet the standards expected by export markets. The QC Volunteer will assist in checking and preparing feedback to producers who often make fabrics and products entirely by hand. This feedback is vital and valuable to help artisans improve quality of their products and promote livelihoods and fair wages.  They will be assisting the QC Manager in measuring production garments and also checking that the garments are of the highest standard. This will include measuring, checking buttons, zips, finishes, seams and print quality etc. Also, on occasion you will be assisting with repair work such as unpicking and hand sewing labels into garments.

People Tree Foundation are looking for a volunteer 2 – 4 days per week from January – March 2017.  The role will be based at their head office in East London and the volunteer would be required from 9.30am – 5.30pm with an hour lunch break.

Whilst the role is not paid, the company are offering to reimburse travel expenses.
