Choosing A Fabric – What Else To Consider?
08-03-2017
Ahead of our trunk show held at the Manchester Art Gallery on the 30th March, Deborah Shulton gives a sneak peak into what she will discuss in her mini seminar.
Choosing a fabric is often the starting point for a design and choosing the right fabric can make a significant impact on the success of that design.
How a fabric looks, feels and behaves on the stand are all things that will be considered when making that choice.
But when choosing a fabric there are other influencing factors that need to be considered which involve looking beyond the fabric itself and asking questions such as:
* Where do the raw materials come from?
* Where is the fabric made – Including country of origin as well as the actual mill?
* How well will the fabric make up in the factory – including stitching, pressing, fusing?
* How will the fabric behave in wear and after care by the customer?
* Does this fabric represent the best value for the price paid?
These and other questions will be discussed during the presentation, looking at the impact that they could have on the final product.
