07-11-2016

Fashion Enter and the Fashion Technology Academy recently hosted a careers fair in collaboration with Affinity Sutton and Circle Housing here at the Factory, the success of which has ensured a partnership with the merged housing associations.

The training programme, which takes place at Fashion Enter’s factory on Crusader Industrial Estate, aims to support the housing associations’ residents and members of the Haringey community into apprenticeships and employment opportunities.

Those who secure a placement could land apprenticeship and employment roles with some of the UK’s most prominent fashion brands including M&S, ASOS, Topshop and Finery.

To officially launch the training course Affinity Sutton, Circle Housing and Fashion Enter hosted an open day on Thursday 27 October, at the Fashion Enter premises, where those with a passion for fashion or an interest in learning the ropes found out much more about what we have to offer.

Offered under Affinity Sutton and Circle Housing’s Ready2Work scheme through Love London Working, a new £13.3m European Social Funded partnership initiative, the training programme aims to help young people in and around Haringey achieve their ambitions.

Last year Ready2Work helped over 1,000 people into work, placed 110 new apprentices and created 319 work placements.

On the initiative Victoria Whittle, Head of Ready2Work, comments: “Affinity Sutton and Circle Housing are committed to ensuring that the communities they serve have access to quality training and sustainable employment opportunities. Ensuring that our residents have the necessary skills, guidance and support required to flourish in the working environment is essential and I’m confident that this partnership will be a huge success and launch many long-term fashion careers.”

From pattern cutting and stitching to machine maintenance and finishing, the course has been designed to arm the next generation with the skills required to keep the British fashion industry alive.

Jenny Holloway, CEO at Fashion Enter, which launched in 2006 and currently produces 8,000 items of clothing a week for many high-street brands, adds: “This is all about young people and equipping them today with the skills that they will undoubtedly need tomorrow. We want those who are considering a career in fashion, or even those who would just like to know more about how the fashion industry could provide an exciting employment route for them, to come and get a feel for what makes the industry tick. Everyone’s welcome here at Fashion Enter and it was a pleasure to meet the next generation of UK fashion industry professionals.”
