London College of Fashion BA Show

09-06-2011

The catwalk presentation was impressive and fabulously styled. The warehouse-like setting at 2 Kingdom street was a perfectly trendy setting for such a show providing a slightly dusty blank canvas.

Awards were presented to exceptional designers from the college.

The Biddle Sawyer Silks Award for Innovative Use of Fabrics went to Stine Rees who used exposed seams, frayed patterns and mixed soft fabrics with chunky fur, high shine plastics and metalics to create a highly unusual collection using a huge range of fabrics.

The Barnett Lawson Best Use of Trimmings award was well prepared for this year with students seemingly trimming every garment as well as the shoes! The winner was Charlotte Barry who created a stunning mustard gold collection with eastern influences, a hint of regality and dripping with embellishment and appliqué. The award was well deserved!!

The Collection of the Year award was presented by Samata, long standing contributor and friend to fashioncapital.co.uk, who has recently been named Red magazines ‘woman to watch under 30’. The winner of this category was Wun Wun Nova Chiu who’s collection was beautifully hand embellished, incredibly detailed and was a mixture between inca traditional dress and the Spanish matador! Strong colours and glittering embellishment caught the judges attention and this collection was obviously incredibly well put together. Fur was used to create structure and clashing prints brought this collection bang on trend.
