What’s Trending This Week?

india whats trending 23 feb 17At Annabel’s, Lily Donaldson, Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner were photographed on Monday socialising at Love and Burberry’s London Fashion Week party after a another day of shows for the models (hard life right?) – with Kendall Jenner donning a particularly memorable oversize thick-knit hoodie.

One of the highlights of LFW was most definitely the Burberry show, where Christopher Bailey explored the rural influence of the sculptor Henry Moore and thus steered the brand’s aesthetic in a new direction. Hosted at the Burberry Maker’s House in Soho (aka Foyles old location), much emphasis was on the shoulder and the construction of the garments, with the finale including a dazzling collection of couture capes covered in an array of embellishment, feathers and lace over the already-seen designs. Embracing the rustic romanticism of the English countryside, warm-cream one shoulder Aran knits, delicate broderie anglaise dresses and somewhat graphic – a new angle for the brand – t-shirts and jumpers were all prominent pieces in the showcase. It was truly stunning show (something that has come to be expected from CEO Bailey) and the sculptural capes, accompanied by 40+ Moore sculptures, make up an exhibition that is open to the public until the 27 February at the Makers House. An absolutely wonderful opportunity not to be missed.

Kate Upton, who is currently gracing the cover of the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, recently shared her refreshing views on body confidence via a Facebook Live discussion. “I got my first cover when I was 19,” Upton said. “After my first cover, critics were discussing whether I was fat or not. I had this huge moment in my career and they were tearing it apart. I have to thank the people who did that because it really made me sit back and find out who I was and what meant something to me, and how I thought about my body. At 19, I wasn’t thinking about that. I sat there answering all these questions I had about my body because I really didn’t know.” Making peace with trolls, the model commented, “If you don’t have haters, then you’re probably not successful,” she laughed, reasoning: “They lashed out on me because they felt insecure about themselves. I realise that the confidence that I had in my body was actually meant to inspire women to love themselves for all their different flaws.” A powerful message indeed.

This week the explosion of creativity and inspiration that is London Fashion Week sadly ended. Check out all of the Fashion Capital’s LFW reports here, from ‘I still love you’ Sabinna to the knitted intricacies of Mark Fast.

Following the horrific news on Thursday that Donald Trump’s administration has opted to revoke federal protections that permitted transgender students to use bathrooms which matched their gender identities, Ellen DeGeneres (and many others) took to Twitter in retaliation. Marc Jacobs posted a rather apt meme of an intrusive women peering under a toilet door captioned ‘Hi, just checking if you have a penis or vagina. I don’t want YOU to make ME uncomfortable!’

On Thursday L’Oreal Paris and the Prince’s Trust launched a brilliant joint initiative to help promote the self-worth of young people in the UK. The campaign features influentials such as Helen Mirren, Cheryl (who officially debuted her growing baby bump in the campaign), Neelam Gill and Katie Piper, as well as Youtubers such as Marcus Butler and InTheFrow. The project will offer 10,000 young adults confidence training in 18 dedicated centres and a digital learning platform.
