What’s Trending This Week?
#HMBalmaination is the fashion world’s latest obsession, and Olivier Rousting has really gone to town on the publicity (as expected). The hashtag constantly appears on your Instagram feed, the collection is always featured in whatever magazine you pick up and the huge NY runway show gathered a mass of media attention, partially thanks to Kendall Jenner + friends. Pieces from the collection are even already advertised on eBay at double the price in anticipation of the collection dropping next Thursday. Yet despite the bombardment, Rousteing still wants more: “I’m already checking the hashtag all the time. I’m the boss of this hashtag and I can’t wait to see people taking selfies of what they’ve bought from the collection.” November the 5th will be a crazy, crazy day for sure – it’s such a shame that I’ll be at school…
Kendall Jenner imitated her sister Kim Kardashian at the star’s 35th birthday party on Thursday. The event had a “pregnant” theme which encompassed guests wearing fake bumps (a la Kendall), Kanye renting out an entire movie theatre to see the new Steve Jobs movie and churros a plenty for the star-studded guests.
The Christmas Windows have arrived! Well, Selfridges have anyway. On Friday the festive (and perhaps premature) displays were unveiled, with a ‘Journey to the Stars’ theme showing 12 stars of zodiac in the 12 windows that are dedicated to all-things-Christmas. Finishing touches were put to the creations during the early hours of the morning – which took over 30,000 hours for hundreds of people to dream up and produce. Selfridges are definitely ahead of the game, but if will they be ahead in the sales reports is another thing all together….
On Thursday, Burberry was the first fashion brand to shoot a campaign live via Snapchat. The Spring/Summer 2016 short was shot by Mario Testino at 5pm, allowing the users of the social-media platform to watch the inevitable gorgeous-ness as it unfolded. #SnapchatCampaign
It was announced on Thursday that Raf Simons is leaving Dior due to “personal reasons”, his last collection being the S/S16 one as recently shown in Paris at Fashion Week. Raf said: “It is a decision based entirely and equally on my desire to focus on other interests in my life, including my own brand, and the passions that drive me outside of my work.” What with Simons’ huge success and celebrity following at Dior, I’m sure his successes will continue no matter who he’s designing for!
Adele debuted her first song in three years on Tuesday: Hello. A 30 second taster of the song was shown during an ad-break during last week’s X Factor, and ever since social media has been gagging to hear the full length song. Self-labelled by Adele as a ‘make-up’ song, it already has almost 100 million views on YouTube and, Adele’s new album 25, is set to monopolise the industry upon release. Have you got the Adele bug yet?
On Wednesday, Bottega Veneta celebrated its signature knot bag, staging an exhibition with 100 of its accessories in its Bond Street store. If that’s not tempting, I don’t know what is!
Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci, Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux, Sam Mendes and Naomi Harris all attended (and of course posed) at the photocall for Spectre on Thursday – the latest Bond movie that is (so far) smashing the box offices. Rumour: this could be the last outing for Craig as the invincible spy, so if you want to witness it on an immersive screen, grab a ticket ASAP!
On Monday, members of Bayern Munich Football Team modelled their suits that have been designed (once again) by Giorgio Armani, showing the current Armani models exactly how it’s done.
You know Agdelena Frackowiak, right? She’s a regular on the catwalk and has had huge success in the modelling industry; but as a jewellery designer you’ve probably not heard of her, that is until now. The Polish stunner presented her debut jewellery collection during PFW (aka Paris Fashion Week), and said “I wanted to be an architect because you create something very intimate for people: their home. Jewellery is really the same – you make something personal that lasts from generation to generation.” With The Magdalena Frackowiak Jewellery collection priced from £1,000 to £10,000, her beautiful, minimal pieces are something you’d definitely want to hold on to!
The Met gave a preview of its new Jacqueline de Ribes exhibition on Tuesday, which is “a close study of de Ribes’s life of creative expression and yields illuminating insights into her strategies of style,” as said by Harold Koda, the Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute who is organising the exhibition. Going to NY at Christmas? Then this exhibition is a must-see.
You must live under a rock if you didn’t know that Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, arrived in the UK for their hotly anticipated state visit on Monday, and have been since meeting every ‘important’ person and seeing every ‘important’ sight that the British Isles has to offer.
Fox Searchlight Pictures and BBC Films announced that filming has begun on Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie on Monday, releasing a still of its stars Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders (Patsy and Eddie respectively) to celebrate. “I am thrilled and excited to finally start filming. We are all on the Sanatogen and hoping for the best,” said Saunders. All I’m looking forward to is the styling and wardrobe, and finding out about wherever they both end up! P.S – I have no idea what Sanatogen is…
