Dutch Fashion Suppliers head out to the UK after successful trade mission

Twelve Dutch fashion suppliers participated in a successful two-day trade mission to the UK last week organised by the Modint, the EVD, the Netherlands Embassy and the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC). The programme consisted of two presentations by industry experts Jenny Holloway (LFF, Fashioncapital) and Eric Musgrave (Drapers Magazine), a store visit to Selfridges and several talks with the buying managers of major British retailers such as Top Shop, Moss Bros and Peter Jones.

The participants were given a comprehensive overview of the British fashion retail market, practical tips on approaching and doing business with British retailers and several sales leads with the retailers they visited. “The British retail market is a difficult market to get into, this was a very good first step for the participants into doing business with UK retailers” said Joris Völker, representative of the trade organisation of Dutch fashion suppliers Modint.

Last Wednesday the trade mission was completed and the participants returned to the Netherlands, except for one delegate, who had already set up appointments with buyers of several retailers.

Since the finish of the trade mission, the organisers have received a lot of positive feedback from the participants. Most of them intend to start their operations in the UK shortly. The NBCC, looking back at its fourth successful trade mission from the Netherlands to the United Kingdom this year, commented they are very pleased with the result and reactions of the participants. “We expect to see the first delegates in the UK early next year and we are ready to support them with their operations here” added Jochem Geheniau from the NBCC’s London office.
