GFW 2013 – Awards & Images

Hosted by designer Henry Holland and TV presenter Zara Martin, a shortlist of graduates were presented on the catwalk once again before an industry packed audience.
A standing ovation was received for Suzy Menkes whose contribution to the fashion industry was awarded a GFW ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ presented by fellow fashion journalist Hilary Alexander. Menkes praised GFW and called the event “exciting, interesting, thrilling and exhilarating”.
Further awards included: the ‘Stuart Peters Visionary Knitwear Award’ which went to Thea Sanders of Nottingham Trent University. The ‘Zandra Rhodes Textiles Award’ went to Kirandeep Bassan of Northampton University, while the ‘Menswear Award’ went to design duo Shauni Douglas & Olicia Creber from Edinburgh University and the ‘Mulberry Accessories Award’ went to Amy Davidson from Manchester School of Art.
Building up to the top prize Hannah Williams of UCA Epsom received the ‘Womenswear Award’ for her white on white latex collection. Presenting the ‘George Gold Award’ Fiona Lambert took to the stage and announced Lauren Smith from Edinburgh College of Art as the winner. Lauren will receive £20,000 to kick start her fashion career and the chance to work alongside the George team to turn her collection into a limited-edition range to be sold in-store and online. Lambert said that “The calibre this year has been outstanding we were absolutely unanimous in our choice. The level of workmanship and creativity was stunning.”
