Window Shopping: Christmas Special
02-12-2013
While some retailers go all out, cue Harrods, others work in a touch of festive magic to this seasons window displays. For the wow factor check out high-end department stores such as Harvey Nichols, Harrods and Selfridges. These stores spend months planning and preparing their displays and are full of creative ideas.
Selfridges have gone for a ‘super-sized’ theme with their Oxford Street display check out huge Beats headphones, Yves Saint Laurent monogram gold clutch, Givenchy hi-top trainer and massive Charlotte Olympia kitty slipper in amongst alpine snow scenes.
Harrods, meanwhile, welcomes you aboard their very own express train inspired by glamorous steam train travel of a bygone era. Not one to hold back the display features a mannequin in one carriage wearing a Swarovski embellished gown costing £80,000 by Ralph & Russo. Each carriage is filled to the brim with fashion, gifts, jewels and fine dining. The entire display took 50 people, months of planning and building and three weeks to install in the world-renowned windows.
Other stores worth a look include Liberty’s and John Lewis, the latter has cleverly created animals and scenes out of everyday household items sold in store which brought a smile to many a shoppers face on Oxford Street.
Keeping it a tad more simple the likes of Zara, H&M and New Look let the clothes do the talking, from partywear to embellished knits; it was all in the styling. The simplest idea of all came courtesy of New Look and their mannequins donning huge white afro’s resembling giant, fluffy snowflakes. While Miss Selfridge posed their gold sequin clad mannequins on some steps, framed with an additional two sporting gold angel wings – drama editorial style.
Enjoy the images and get inspired this Christmas.
