Ghanem’s couture A/W collection, entitled ‘L’or Noir (Black Gold) is inspired by the work of expressionist Aaron Siskind and petrol-oil in the way it engulfs space, water and living things.
The collection combines Ghanem’s signature printing and cutting techniques with lace construction to give his evening dresses and cocktail gowns an air of contemporary drama.
The colour palette dips into the dark shades of black combined with subtle highlighted tones, to create a blended texture, that is reminiscent of oily petrol and the appearance of a second skin, scuba-like texture.
“Borrowing elements from sportswear, we designed the couture pieces, having in mind an independent and powerful woman, neither feminine or masculine.” Commented Ghanem and Aiden Connor, The design team behind the Ghanem couture ‘nouveau’ look.
Ziad Ghanem’s “L’or Noir” was launched during Couture Fashion Week in Paris, other names showcasing their couture designs throughout the week include the likes of Versace, Viktor & Rolf and Zuhair Murad amongst others.
