NYFW SS18 Sachin + Babi
08-09-2017
There is an opulent feel to the Sachin + Babi SS18 show from the moment you arrive. The location with its dark wood walls and atmospheric low lighting has the air of a Hitchcock movie set. As the show begins you understand why they’ve used such a dark backdrop – the flash of colour and fabrics pop from the moment the models step out.
The collection’s palette is rich and bright, mixed with textured textiles and staple patterns throughout and using block colours. There are primrose yellow and green flashes for the eveningwear pieces and softer textiles and off white colours for the more everyday items.
Every piece has been well thought out – you feel the luxury. But also you can see how wearable the collection is. It is made for real occasions. The dresses are cut so they skim the floor, the models walk past as you might day dream of swooping past your ex nonchalantly.
The make-up is simple, hardly there while the hair is undone, which helps to style the collection and gives it a more casual and modern feel, stepping away from the traditional ballgown looks of perfect hair and sculpted faces while using colours and shapes that flashback to the 70s and 80s.
