Where Are They Now?

With a 100% employment rate, the Fashion Technology Academy guarantees that all of our students will progress onto further education and employment within their chosen sectors. As a start-up enterprise, we celebrate our student’s success and cannot express how delighted we are when we hear what wonderful things they progress onto. Find out what our previous students are now doing here:
Jasmine de Baeza
Joining us here at the stitching academy when she was just 16 years old completing an 8 week traineeship at the factory, Jasmine progressed onto our Level 3 apprenticeship where she completed her in house training with Darling Clothes. After the completion of her apprenticeship the company offered her a full time job role as a junior designer when she is currently still working.
Izzy Higgs
A previous Fashion Enter apprentice, Izzy Higgs is now working in China as a menswear sample room assistant for Cohen & Wilks whom output for retailers such as Superdry, M&S and Next.
“After completing a one-year Art Foundation Course at AUB I stumbled across an apprenticeship on Facebook and decided to spontaneously apply. Never imagining I would be successful, I was in fact offered the job as Studio Assistant at Marios Schwab in London. Here I was responsible for helping to manage the sample room, assisting with pattern cutters and machinists, assisting in fittings and managing interns in preparation for London Fashion Week. Once a week I also worked on the coursework side of the apprenticeship at Fashion Enter. Working at Marios Schwab was fast paced, hands on and hard work but this also meant I learnt quickly and was then taken on afterwards as a full time employee as Studio and Product Development Assistant. This experience then led me to my applying for a job in China and I have recently started as Menswear Sample Room Coordinator based in Nanjing. Without having done the apprenticeship I would never have been able to achieve so much by the age of 21. Having the hands on experience really helped me progress into a new role and I am so grateful for the staff at Marios Schwab and Fashion Enter for the opportunity and for being so supportive. I cannot recommend apprenticeships enough, as pursuing this rather than University was the best decision I ever made!”
Khadra Osman
Following the completion of our Level 1 Stitching Academy for Tomorrows Designer’s course, Khadra completed a Level 3 apprenticeship with Marks & Spencer. After her two-years of hard work, dedication and training, Khadra was able to secure a role as a Junior Garment Technologist at the renowned designer department store Harrods.
Lily Stone
Lily joined us at the age of 16 as a Garment Technologist Apprentice where she completed her four days of in house training with high street retailer New Look. Upon completing her apprenticeship, New Look immediately hired the student and she now runs her own department as Assistant Technologist on formal jersey, leggings, sports-wear and evening attire.
Marquel Williams
Having completed both our Level 1 and 2 course here at the Stitching Academy, Marquel took a chance and applied for a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Textiles and Apparel in collaboration with Sewing Pathway and Strictly Come Dancing in which he was successful and offered the role. From assisting with the making and altering of costumes to assisting with the fitting and appearance of costumes, he has been presented with the opportunity to make his dreams a reality.
“I love working with Strictly, I’m learning at a fast pace which is motivating me – I love to learn! I feel and see my skills growing as I’m working on more and more advanced garments. I have the ability to show my passion, which is making clothes, whilst continuing to develop.”
Following Marquel’s success with the company, DSI Clothing are now looking to hire another 3 apprentices in January 2017!
Tehia Rae McDermott
Level 1 Stitching Academy student Tehia came to us via Waltham Forest Council and has now been selected to work alongside June Sarpong MBE as an apprentice for her brand Ldny to start in 2017.
