2 – Day Tailor Made Cutting Course

From 30th November – 1st December 2021 the Fashion-Enter team welcomed another group of four individuals from HMPS. The group completed a 2-day tailor made cutting course with Factory Manager Chris Toumba and Garment Technologist Elle Argyrou. The course included up-to-the-minute health and safety information with live, practical demonstrations and the opportunity to demonstrate understanding through observation and participation.

The course included:

– Health and safety

– Understanding different fabric types

– Understanding the various cutting machines

– Evaluating the different checking methods on fabric

– Factory tour – assessing the entire process of production

– Identifying poor cutting

– Understanding a lay plan

– Live demonstration of cutting

– Implications of a lay plan

– Maintenance of cutting equipment

– Identifying time lines and efficiencies

– Practise using the cutting equipment

Tutor Elle said: “The 2-day cutting course went really well. It was also so much better and easier working with a smaller group, as this allowed them more cutting time. They were an enthusiastic bunch and hope they enjoyed the course as much as Chris and myself enjoyed having them.”

Feedback at the end of the two days was excellent and included:

I have increased knowledge. This will enable me to complete my role more effectively.”

“I gained a better understanding of how to lay fabric and of how to use the Eastman knife, plus knock on affect of bad cutting practices.”

Really good instructors Elle and Chris showed a very good knowledge to pass on to us.”

Fantastic, learnt a great deal learnt loads.”

I was nervous prior to the course starting, but the tutors helped me relax, so I got the most from the course.”
