Stitching Academy for Tomorrow’s Designers
Stitching Academy for Designers is a six-week course, where you can learn the fundamentals of using a variety of industrial sewing machines: how to set them up and use them safely, maintain the machines and identify the correct settings for the fabric.
This is ideal if you want to start a career in fashion design and if you live London, then our Stitching Academy course is FREE.
You will practice a variety of sewing techniques to produce a range of stitch samples, garments, measuring, cutting and constructing a basic pattern, and learn to identify what is good and poor quality.
What you will study:
You will study 3 units, each 4 credits, which upon successful completion will gain you an accredited qualification which is the ABC Level 1 Award in Fashion & Textiles.
Using Industrial Sewing Machinery, 4 credits
In this unit you will develop their skills in the use of industrial sewing machinery. This includes how to identify the main parts of an overlocker and flatbed straight stitch machines, demonstrate how to thread them correctly, insert the bobbin, adjust the tension and produce a range of sewing tests.
Industrial Sewing Operations, 4 credits
In this unit you will develop skills in the use of industrial sewing machinery. This includes how to use a lockstitch machine to produce a range of seam and hem samples, join fabric with an overlocker and adjust stitch tension appropriately to achieve a suitable finish.
Inspection of Finished Sewn Products, 4 credits
In this unit you will learn about the inspection process involved when inspecting finished sewn products. You will then be required to demonstrate that you can inspect finished products.
This includes recognising what happens after a passed and failed inspection and identifying the relevant tools, machinery and documents needed during the inspection process.
How you will be taught:
This is a very ‘hands on’ course so right from the start, you will be learning practical processes. You will be inducted into Health and Safety procedures and policies to ensure you work safely amongst your fellow learners and teachers. Your progress will be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure you are getting the most from the course.
