In preparation for the launch of the FashionCapital.co.uk Boutique providing up and coming designers the opportunity to feature at this fabulous event, Nicola Darling, Sophie Camille and Nicola Hamilton from Haymarket answered all the questions on our eager designer's lips.

Clothes Show London

The delightful team of The Clothes Show London event organisers visited the Showroom in Kingston on the 21st January to provide designers interested in taking up the incredible opportunity of selling their products at the first Clothes Show in London in twenty years with an overview of this much anticipated event under the FashionCapital.co.uk umbrella.

The target audience is aimed at 18 - 35 year olds and attracts a completely different audience to those attending the Clothes Show Live in Birmingham with only 3% of those expected to attend the London show.

The event will host a selection of up and coming designer talent, more established designers, beauty and even an indoor beach! The Clothes Show London is expected to resemble the Black Label and Pink zones previously seen in Birmingham.

The most prestigious event of 2009 will kick start on Friday the 29th May with a glamorous Beauty Awards in the evening which has already received over 250 entries in this first year's revival of the Clothes Show London. Tickets can be booked via the Clothes Show London website for £24.

As the event commences with a huge award ceremony in the evening, hordes of press will swarm to Excel on Friday not only to cover the winners but to also catch a glimpse of the action on the floor, so come prepared with any promotional material for your label to hand out. This information can also be taken to the press office itself, so be sure to feature your section and stand number so they can find you if they wish to report on your brand.

The return of the Fashion Theatre hits the capital again with a vast 2,500 seating area and will cover all fortes of fashion. Designers showcasing at the event will have the opportunity to feature their collections in the show however the final decision will be at the discretion of the production team.

Extensive press coverage will be featured in the likes of national popular magazines, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and Easy Living as well as national papers including the Guardian. Advertisements will also feature in Glamour, Grazia, Elle, the London Lite and Metro as well as billboards and posters in London Underground stations.

Top Tips
  • Even though the target audience is aimed at 18 - 35 year olds, you should still be aware that the younger market consumer will also be attending.
  • Your price points should be based on your London consumer.
  • Quantity - It is difficult to define a correct quantity however, as the London based Clothes Show differs from Birmingham in the way that Birmingham was more of a clearance sale, being hosted at Christmas and the sheer volume of products available, prices are expected to be lower and sell larger quantities however the London consumer is prepared to pay slightly more for quality and exclusivity, and samples too will sell well because of this.
  • Graphics can be attached to the shell scheme however as in Birmingham, the use of nails to hammer into the walls is prohibited.
  • Transactions - PDQ machines are available to hire via Melville however it is advisable to bring your own which can also be hired via your local bank as Melville can be expensive.
  • It is advised to provide current stock, at that time will be Spring/Summer, and as there is an indoor beach area, this will just add to the appeal and Summer feel.
