The beauty trends of Autumn/Winter 2009/10 were well and truly revealed on the runway. So here’s a brief catch up on the hot styles of the season for you all:

Did someone say more Volume?

Bigger and better seemed to be the main theme as far as hair was concerned at the Autumn/winter 2009/10. Voluminous was the tall order of the day, with rolls, twists, buns and even bouffants making regular appearances in all four major cities. The typical up-do had been newly invented by designers such as Paul Costelloe in London, and Oscar de la Renta, Badgeley Mischka and Marc Jacobs in New York. This new up-do had more bounce, more texture, more height and even a few curls.

The gothic trend was a hit with several designers and this translated to hair styles as well with influences from gothic Tim Burton. Other designers went for a more mainstream appearance, looking at the primness of the Upper East Side. Get inline with this trend and invest in several bottles of hairspray. True followers will need it!

Colour is having its comeback.

The Autumn/Winter 2009/10 shows in London saw the comeback of colourful makeup. At Paul Costelloe and Osman Yousefzada, hot pink, violet blush and acid yellow stood out amongst the usual sea of berry tones. "There's no rule to say you can't use colour in winter," says Yousefzada's make-up artist Lisa Eldridge.

The multi-cultural embrace

This season saw designers in London embracing the varied multi cultural influences. Erdem transformed models into Russian dolls with haphazard top knots and a red dolly pout, whilst Betty Jackson and Ashish went farther East with heavy lined lids and a Geisha girl lip.
