{mosimage} When we talk about Brand, Fashion, Retail and Business one of the great contributors that comes to mind is Sir Philip Green. Britain’s fourth richest industrialist with nearly 2300 shops in the UK he has had the greatest impact in the retail and fashion industry. His assets are thought to be worth billions of pounds, but his involvement in the UK clothing retail market makes him the second largest in the retail sector.


We can read this and envy him but he has gone through many difficult paths to achieve this. Myself, being a Master in Business Administration (MBA) and a Fashion Designer I admire the way he started out and reached the top of his game as a business tycoon. Born in a Jewish family in South London he started at the early age of 15, and today at 55 he has managed to create the massive ‘Arcadia Group’ including BHS & Tammy, Burtons, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Topshop and Topman all under one roof.

 
Even with this wide pool of commercial fashion businesses he has not left behind the talent of creative designers, which is at the root of fashion. Designers need support and exposure in the fashion world and that is where Sir Philip Green helps. Anyone can look glamorous it’s just ‘you’ve got to find the right look’ – find your niche. By giving opportunities to young designers who showcase their work at London Fashion Week via the Topshop New Gen initiative he is doing complete justice to the industries up and coming talent.


With all this and much more for the future, Sir Philip Green is, and I hope he remains to be, one of the great Fashion Leaders providing opportunities to make the UK the fashion centre of the world.
