Jessica Ogden

Asos.com has just announced that Jessica Ogden will be the lead designer on the International Fashion Fusion project offering guidance to the winner of Fashion Enter's, currently running, International Fashion Fusion competition. Ogden will be overseeing the project while creating a range to coincide with the selected winner's design.

Jessica Ogden, was born and raised in Jamaica, and went on to attend the Rhode Island School of Design in America, after which she moved to London and graduated from the Byam Shaw School of Art. Her career in the fashion industry started in 1992, after moving to London and working as a volunteer for Oxfam's NoLoGo, recycling clothes from charity centres into new garments.

Jessica's fascination with old and distressed fabrics has been a continuing theme in her work since the launch of her own label in 1993. Texture is important, with the garments using layering, hand-printing and stitching techniques to create uncompromisingly modern forms. The 'one-off' pieces, and unconventional presentations as part of London Fashion Week from 1996 to 2006, have created the global attention that she enjoys in the media today.

Ogden ceased production of her ready-to-wear collection and closed her London studio in 2006, after which she moved to Paris to continue her work. Ogden collaborates with French fashion house APC, designing a spin-off collection called Madras. New collaborations in 2009 included British shoe label F-Troupe and the ethical brand People Tree.

Ogden's first editorial appeared in i-D magazine in 1993 and to this day she is regularly featured in publications such as Japanese Vogue, Teen Vogue USA, Dazed and Confused, Elle and Self Service. For Autumn Winter 2008 British Vogue dedicated a page to Ogden, celebrating her unique personal style. She also was recently a contributor at SHOWstudio for Autumn Winter 2009 London Fashion Week.

As written in the Independent Magazine: ‘Jessica Ogden's work is individual and personal, the opposite of big brand conglomerates. These are clothes that have the elegance of a woman and the innocence of a young girl. They are both old and new, quiet and exciting."

Ogden will bring her strong sense of craft and salvage textile techniques to the project and we at Fashion Enter are excited to have her work along side Asos.com during the International Fashion Fusion project.
