Ziad Ghanem & his Maiden Britain Collective

There aren’t many shows that can give you something to think about while having a good old laugh at the same time. For that you’d have to go off-schedule and check out the latest wares from Ziad Ghanem and his Maiden Britain collective.

Set in the depths of the imposing Freemason’s Hall the show kicked off with a video featuring inspirational images and thought-provoking revelations such as 'I lost my head the day I found my heart' to a packed auditorium.

Entitled ‘The Immoralist’ the collection is inspired by the Andre Gide novel of the same name and takes in a myriad of references ranging from Hollywood’s glamorous golden age to pop art and fast food chains. The vibrancy and innovation of London’s youth culture provide Ziad and his team an endless source of inspiration which is taken to another level with a liberal application of wit and splendor.

A riot of colour, texture and form - shiny futuristic metallics are juxtaposed against 3-dimensional shapes and easy-to-wear fabrics to create pieces packed with individuality and character. Denim designs, in collaboration with streetwear brand Firetrap, are form-fitting and created from carefully applied patchwork pieces. Elsewhere cropped tees, bold catsuits and Annie Lennox prints add an Eighties vibe. Styled with brothel-creepers, sky-high quiffs and lashings of attitude it looks like London has bagged a brand new fashion rebel.
