New Term, New Start
In recent weeks I have been very neglectful of my fashion-y self.

The start of third year, after a long reading-less summer was a bit of a shock to my system. I am ashamed to admit that I have spent the majority of the last three weeks in cow print pyjamas swotting up on eighteenth century feminist lit. Until last night my housemate staged an intervention, I was dragged from my pile of books, washed, dressed and dragged out for the highlight of the student shopping calendar, student lock in night. This was my chance to re-establish myself, sort myself out for autumn winter (and possibly replace the dodge P-J's)

In Leeds, as in other student cities around the country, there is one night a season where the shops stay open late, your student library card is your secret key and provides you with 20% off and most magically of all, someone gives you free alcohol. With barely minutes to re-familiarise myself with what people wear in the outside world I wrote a shopping list of key pieces for me to grab in the hustle and bustle. Arriving at Topshop, I realised my list making had cost me dear, the queue was already a good few hundred people long and the doors hadn't even opened! It was like the Christopher Kane launch all over again. However, with my beady fashion eye I noted that the obligatory uni student uniform was still enforced, long tops, leggings and ugg boots? Did no one have an original idea over the summer?

In a cold sweat I decided the best bet was the lesser known night at Urban Outfitters. What a decision! No queues, free vodka orange, and a goody bag with any purchase. I nabbed a yellow gold dress I've had my eye on for a few weeks but with the 20% off saved myself £9 (huge deal when my weekly food budget is £10) With a free nail varnish and rag bow hair band thrown in I was a very happy shopper.

Floral mini skirts, in lycra, jersey and cord were the order of the day here, if you want to jump on the bandwagon try this baby from Urban Outfitters, for a mere £25.

Back to Topshop, and as the long line vest tops flew off the shelves it was floral again that ruled the roost. This time dresses and tunic tops, in the short time I was in the store I saw at least 10 girls with this dress for £25.

As by the time I got to the rail there was only one left, I'd recommend getting it off the website!

So it seems floral is the way forward in student-ville this autumn, no doubt universally teamed with leggings and Ugg boots! Check out when your town's student lock in night is, take a list and buy buy buy, as it's discounted, you can buy 20% more!
