Looks for the New Year
By Helen Batstone
So we've seen in the New Year, in our sparkly frocks, with a glass of champagne and so far we have been blanketed in snow, seen temperatures plummet to below -15°C and witnessed the VAT rate return to 17.5%. But just because it's sub-zero temperatures and one of your resolutions is to cut down on expenses, doesn't mean you can't wrap up warm whilst being bang-on trend and making yourself feel a lot happier with yourself! Here's a load of snugly knits, shoes and accessories that will keep you stylishly warm this season...

Firstly, if you haven't yet invested in a fur coat, then you must get your hands on the new feather coat! This coat is £55 from Miss Selfridge, also available as a gilet, and the pale pink is the perfect colour for the spring season.

The cream knitted jumper has been reduced from £38 to £30, available from ASOS. Not only will this garment keep you warm during the bracing spring days, but the three-quarter length sleeves, and slash-neck will help you make the smooth transition from winter into spring.

The knitted, layered look was seen everywhere before Christmas, and it is still a key look for this season. Make sure your wardrobes include a variety of muted pastel colours, with draped silks and floral lace. Layer a pair of long wool socks over leggings, with a knit tunic or lace dress. Shrug a fur or feather coat over your outfit with a thick scarf and you'll be ready to brave any frosty morning.

Lift your mood with this gorgeous cluster necklace for an astounding £10 from ASOS.

Finally, I am expecting to see shoes like this everywhere; from spring into summer. They will be just perfect for giving the floral, sugary dresses a bitter twist in order to pull the look into 2010.
Boots
The buckles, leather and studs really add a touch of tough-warrior, which is predicted to be a key trend for the next season.

This pair is available for £60 from New Look.

Above are just a few garments available in order to create the perfect outfits and bring you firmly from 2009 into 2010. These items will stick around for a while, and are great prices!

So there is your way to uplift your spirits without breaking the bank or your new year's resolution! Whether you're travelling to work, going out for a casual stroll, or planning a night out with the girls, be sure to invest in some of these staple items to keep you à la mode and snug as a bug.
