It was revealed recently that the three trade agreements made on Thursday with the US to South Korea, Columbia and Panama may been in doubt after ill-tempered issues ranging from labour concerns to beef and auto imports.

Although the majority of these concerns have been looked over and resolved, a major problem is U.S workers who belong to the passage of the Trade Adjustment Assistance programme are being threatened of their jobs because of the new trade agreements being made.

Sherrod Brown, a worker of the TAA announced that “Trade Adjustment Assistance should move through Congress on its own merit, along with the several bipartisan trade enforcement initiatives introduced in the Senate” and that it was “No surprise Americans are cynical over empty promises about jobs created through free trade agreements like Korea -- particularly when these agreements are coupled with assistance for workers who lose their jobs to trade. If there was ever any doubt that free trade agreements cost American jobs, the Korea/TAA deal provides clarity.”

President of the TAA Nicole Bivens Collinson, also commented with optimism and stated, “I think there is enough time to get them passed by the August recess, I may be a lone ranger, but I believe it is still possible.”
