The battle of the Retail stores!
13th September 13, 2010

If you have lived in London for a considerable amount of time, you should be aware of how busy and eventful the ending of August, and the first few weeks of September usually are.
With the kids going back school, it is usually a great opportunity for retailers to up there sales. For the past couple of weeks the children's wear departments in many retail stores have been going crazy. For example Britain's favorite retailer, John Lewis achieved a record breaking profit last week, as 'Back to School' raised the sales from 5.6% to ÂŁ57 million.

This was a remarkable achievement for John Lewis, who has recently undergone a revamp of their women's wear department. John Lewis have spent a massive ÂŁ10 million, in re designing there stores, including the flag ship store in Oxford Circus.
On Friday 10th of September, John Lewis (the Oxford Circus store) unveiled their new advert display in the front windows of the store, which is dedicated to fashion. This will certainly draw in more customers as the busiest week for Fashion in London approaches...London Fashion week! Which starts on the 17th of September until the 22nd of September.
Other stores on Oxford Street, the home of fashion in London, will also be embracing London Fashion Week, and should as a result up their sales. Topshop will be showcasing emerging design talent at London Fashion Week, for spring/summer 2010.Marks & Spencer, River Island and Debenhams are among a host of retailers who have also been promoting London Fashion Week, in their Oxford Circus stores, and should therefore see a rise in their sales and profit.

In general School wear and new autumn collections have lifted retail sales throughout August, and are still doing so now.
In a bid to target a younger audience Zara, launched their online shopping site in the UK, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and Germany on 2nd September, Barclays Capital have forecast online shopping at Zara to boost earnings by 9.1% in the first full year following the launch.
H & M will soon be following in Zara's footsteps by launching their own online shopping website. The online shopping website is scheduled to open on the 16th of September 13, 2010, just in time for Fashion week!
