Have your cake and eat it!

Having had an exquisite afternoon tea in the press room with scones, jam and cakes, I noticed how this seemed to continue into the John Rocha show, as I was confronted with allsorts of scrummy treats. Firstly, having had my ticket stolen, the lovely security guard ushered me in where I was seated a few rows back from none other than Jimmy Choo. Jumping on Jimmy as soon as the lights went up, he said he enjoyed the show immensely.

Rocha must have been thinking that the more layers the better for his AW10 line, as everything was piled on to build body and style in this Edwardian yet futuristic fashion show. Even the overpowering fur coat was layered which gave the garment a new personality and suggested a classic cavewoman.

Lots of ruffles added panache to the range, particularly the black buttoned coat with a ruffled hem. It was traditional and classic, yet quirky and innovative which would make this comfortable winter coat the ideal investment piece.

Drapes were also a key part of the show. A short LBD got a makeover by having drapes at the back, and strips of material hanging down the sides to conjure the vision of an angels wings. The drapes and layers of this outfit were so refreshing, and loose that it looked almost like a cloak.

The head dresses were high and fancy, like wedding cakes, each one with another tier than the last. Some were in black, others in peachy cream and if they weren’t in a head dress then they had some sort of bowler hat – Liza Minelli eat your heart out!
