Style - Luke Castillo For me there are so many reasons why Georgy pushes the boundaries as a menswear designer. Not only has he been able to tap into his past experience in dance to produce his unique innovation, but has also pulled from his experience as a fashion stylist to present his work in its most chic and simplistic form that allows his point of view to be read loud and clear.
I first met Georgy at his studio when I was shooting an up and coming artist, this occasion pulling from his women’s wear collection not at all acknowledging at this point I would become one of his many followers of street culture infused designs. “Georgy Baratashvili is one of the most outstanding menswear designers of today’s fashion. Georgian origin he was born and brought up in Moscow….. Driven by constant need of self expression from a very young age, Georgy displayed a number of natural creative talents…..Georgy studied design and pattern cutting in Moscow, created costumes for stage plays, and worked as freelance stylist for various publications. In 2003 Georgy moved to London to continue his fashion explorations, where he completed BA at London College of Fashion and MA at Central Saint Martins in February 2008. “

Using a muted palette his designs evoke the modern man and explore how the new man sees clothing and how they can experiment with clothes that aren’t the bog standard tailored suiting. Georgy is perfect editorial content as he plays with the males silhouette and isn’t afraid to re-event dancewear and the ‘chav’ culture. I’m definitely going to be watching Georgy in 2011 and after his exciting collaboration with Puma and his working relationship with Preen I definitely think there are the things to come from this understated designer.
