| SS12 – Fashion Trend Overview - London & Paris Fashion Week |
|
This season I travelled to London and Paris to catch the latest trends hitting the catwalks for next summer. Here is a round-up of the top summer trends to watch and buy next summer!
Pastels
Soft pastels are generally ascociated with spring and romance but this season pastels will be clean with crisp lines and pleats.
Pink and Orange
For those designers avoiding the pastel trends these bold statement colours were worn together, clashing violently and looking absolutely wonderful!
White
All white is never an easy outfit to go for but with casual city tailoring, exposed zips and feminine shapes white was prominent on the runway.
Turquoise and Yellow
Another clashing duo for those avoiding pastels, worn together these two colours look so fresh and summery and have a little bit of an 80’s edge.

Jewels and Sparkles
Splashes of diamante were thrown into most collection, although the usual place for sparkles and jewels is Christmas; this coming season is time to bling up! Many designers used very shiny looking fabrics as well as foil coated metallic fabrics. There were no holds barred as to where they were used with metallic jackets, skirts, dresses – everything!
Feminine Silhouettes
Nipped in waists, tight pencil skirts, wider A line skirts, bust enhancing rouching all made for a very feminine season! The models may be size 6 but so many of these feminine shapes are perfect for those with boobs and bums!
Lower Hems
Although there were still many micro mini skirts on the runway, hemlines are lowering with skirts on or just above the knee looking very sophisticated as well as full maxi skirts – usually split at the side or front and midi skirts sitting below the knee . These were kept from being frumpy with splits, pleats and sheer fabrics.

Mixed Length Maxis
Mixed length skirts are all the rage! With shorter knee length hems at the front trailing down to a full billowing maxi behind – this is such a flattering look and can save a maxi from looking too OTT or last summer!
Sheer Fabrics and cut outs
This seasons collections were all quite classy looking and cheeky, discreet cut outs covered in sheer fabrics added the sex factor to some of the outfits. Backless dresses and plunging necklines featured sheer overlays as well as skirts covered in longer length sheer fabrics adding volume and interest.

Sporty Casual Tailoring
Casual tailoring meant that even the chic-est looks on the catwalk didn’t look stuffy or overworked. The idea of the sporty, tailored jackets in leather and jersey is a perfect throw on for the summer. Many of the sheer cut outs and panelling helped add a sporty element to collections.
