Vivienne Westwood

As usual tickets to the Westwood show were like gold dust.

After waiting in the cold for the show to let you in, fighting to get a spot where you can see the star studded front row, including the likes of Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Pixie Lott, Jo Wood, Tracey Emin and Janet Jackson.

Once the show begins you can completely understand why Vivienne Westwood is and always will be such a fashion icon.

Her models are styled beautifully, with deep dark make-up giving the skeletal girls extra gauntness and hair back-combed to infinity so it rises like a messy halo around their heads tiws neatly with a scarf.

The first outfit is a draped hemp like coat with a long t-shirt dress and gorgeous black and purple leggings, another take on paisley.

All the t-shirts that the models are wearing bear statistics and facts about the Haiti disaster and climate change. Viv is using her power as a fashion superstar to get across her message about climate change, but, I wonder how much her carbon footprint was expanded by the limos transporting all the stars?

There were was lots of artful draping, big colourful buttons and a playful nature to the whole show.  There were cute little hats and military style coats reminiscent of the 1940s and war, long hunter boots and the fierce looking models gave this whole collection a warrior like look.

This was emphasized humourously with a model stalking down the catwalk sharpening a knife and wearing an apron branded ‘LOYALTY 2 GAIA’. The Gaia theory is something to do with global warming… this sounds a little complicated for my blonde fashion saturated mind.

Everything was going so well until some how Pixie Geldof escaped onto the catwalk… I mean was a celebrity model and she didn’t look too out of place, but I find the celelbrity guest models a little sycophantic for Westwood. She styled the punk era and should surely not be bowing to this commercial wannabe celeb?

Vivienne Westwood

There was the usual mix of checks and prints and even a splash of sparkle and animal print to keep all the trend hunters happy. I love Westwood, from her crazy styling to her fabulous artful draping. This show was everything we were waiting for and more and as always it is an honour to attend.
